Part-Time Vancouver Courses – Info & FAQs

• While we don’t officially enforce any prerequisites for our classes, we do have some guidelines.
• If you have none to some experience with Acting, Broadcasting, performance, announcing we recommend taking Foundations and / or taking Acting for Voice-over as your first classes.
• If you have taken Foundations or have a baseline of experience from another performance or professional speaking occupation, the Level 1 classes should be the right level. We would describe them as ‘intermediate level’
• Level 2 and 3 classes are intermediate – advanced classes. They should be used for professional development and practice. It is expected that any student taking these classes has a solid level of experience from either our classes, or from professional experience in the industry.

The majority of our in studio classes range from CAD$535 to CAD$625. Our Non-studio and lecture classes range from CAD$150 – CAD$450. Prices should be listed on each class page.

Registration can be made by paying the deposit or full payment for class. All student information should be entered into the additional information field in the checkout. Our website take credit cards, visa debit cards, and Pay Pal. We also take interac payments, contact info@onthemictraining.com to learn how. If you need time to make the payment you can ask to be put on the interested list, this does not guarantee you a spot but we can let you know when the class is almost full.

We allows students to either pay in full to reserve their spot in class, or they can pay in two parts. The deposit payment of half the value of the class secures registration and the final payment completes the payment. Payment must be made in full by 1 week before the start of class.

• If you cancel 14 days before the class, you receive 100% of your payment back .
• If you cancel 13-7 days before the class, you receive 50% of your payment back.
• If you cancel six days or less before the class, no refund will be given.
• If we cancel a class, your deposit may be applied to any other class OR a full refund will be given. *Cancellation refunds are subject to an $8.29 admin fee.

A student who misses a class can either make it up by: auditing the classes missed in the next round or participate ONLY if the class is not sold out. No refunds or make-ups will be given otherwise.

Most classes are 4 week long workshops, 1 night a week for 4 weeks. We do offer weekend workshop versions of some classes. Some On-Going training classes run for 6 weeks. The duration of the class should be listed on the class page. Our 4 week class a usually 14 hours long in total.

Our studio is located at 101 Powell Street which is on the corner of Powell and Columbia. We are one block East of the Gastown Jack Statue. Our entrance is on the left side of the alcove just past the corner. We are open for office hours from 9am – 4pm. Our classes are held in the evenings and during the day on weekends. Foundations is offered every month as both a week night class and a weekend workshop. Most other classes are offered every other month. Some specialty and advanced classes are only offered twice a year.

Read out loud every day for at least 10 minutes for at least 10 minutes. This may sound silly but hearing your own voice will improve your comfort and performance in class. It will also help you lift words off the page more easily when performing scripts. When you attend class we recommend you wear comfortable clothes that don’t make too much noise when you move, Bring a reusable water bottle, and refrain from wearing heavy perfumes or smoking before class.

All of our instructors and engineers work in the Voice-over, Film, and TV industry. Meaning that all our instructors have up to date real world experience to pass on to students, but sometimes they get booked to be on set, or in the studio for long projects and we have to switch instructors. As such we reserve the right to change instructors for classes based on schedule but promise that any changes will be with an instructor with equal experience and wisdom.
